Well I’m sitting here writing this blog on our last night on land because TOMORROW we are setting off on a 4 hour long bus journey up to Tampa to meet the beautiful Carnival Paradise ready to set sail for 7 solid months !!!!
I wanted to write a quick blog for you all to read before I leave, to fill you in a little bit on how our month in Florida has gone….….and also because this is the last day of free unlimited wifi for a long time and I’m soaking that shit up !! haha!
It’s been pretty full-on out here since we arrived (that’s the reason i haven’t blogged before now) working our asses off in The Carnival Studios and its finally time to put all our hard work into practise and tomorrow night we will be ready (or not!) to go LIVE! on the ship with our first theme night ’Nashville Now’.
Incase you didn’t know already, every night we work on the ship, we perform a different theme for our guests to enjoy and our themes are as follows;
Modern and Old Country tunes…….e.g Dolly Parton, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, Carrie Underwood, Steve Earl, Dixie Chicks, Blake Sheldon
HITSVILLE AND FUNKY SOUL:
Motown and Old Soul tunes…….e.g Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Earth Wind and Fire, The Temptations, Staple Sisters (This is by far my favourite theme for performing !!!)
I ❤️ 80S:
Prince, Michael Jackson, ACDC, Journey, Toto, Bon Jovi, Whitney Houston, Joan Jett
Top tunes that takes me back to my childhood e.g. Spice Girls, Britney, Hanson, Backstreet Boys, Chilli Peppers, Sheryl Crow etc
(essentially a big mix of all tunes old and new!)
In the four weeks we have managed to rehearse 178 songs together, which is pretty good going, however, there’ll be rehearsals scheduled frequently through out our contract to add songs and clean up any mistakes we’ve been making.
I have to say, I’m really looking forward to this contract and have a really good feeling about it.
As a band, we all get along so well and have been hanging out most nights and going out to eat dinner together (the downside of that is the amount of pounds I’ve put on since arriving here!..Looking forward to taking full advantage of the huge Gym on the ship !)
Half way through the first week here , we discovered a (very dodgy) local bar called “Sports Barn’….However, the boys have since renamed it to ‘Amber’s Bar’ as the bar maid who served us that night ……………..how to put this………………has ‘been blessed with a beautiful Chest !!’…..or in Mr A’s words “her children won’t go hungry!” hahahah!! So all the boys fell in love that night and if only Amber knew how often her name has come into conversation in our daily lives since !! So if you ever find yourself stuck in Davie, Florida, you should go check out The Sports Bar:
Oh so we finally came up with a band name too………are you ready for it?…….
“Ladies and Gentleman, please go wild and crazy as we welcome to the stage…”
What do you think…… Kraken The Cover Band? cool right?….
Incase your unaware of what The Kraken is:
The kraken (/ˈkrɑːkən/) is a legendary sea monster of giant size that is said to dwell off the coasts of Norway and Greenland. Authors over the years have postulated that the legend originated from sightings of giant squids that may grow to 12–15 meters (40–50 feet) in length. The sheer size and fearsome appearance attributed to the kraken have made it a common ocean-dwelling monster in various fictional works.
We also thought it was pretty cool as Conor and Will are both from Dublin and are always asking each other ‘Whats The Craic?’……to which we have learnt that “The craic was ninety” hahahahah!!!
So anyway to wrap things up here, Its been a productive month of rehearsals, beer drinking practice and Top Craic but it’s officially time to take our craic’n band to the seas and share our hard work with the punters !!
