First of all,
I would like to start this general update post by apologising for the length of time it has taken me to update my blog! It’s been a bit of a whirlwind these past few weeks , pretty much non stop since we moved onto the Paradise over two weeks ago but I’ve been desperate to write and I am constantly coming up with ideas for new posts and I am excited to add a Vlog to my website soon too! (That’s a video blog mum!)
When I was in Tampa on Saturday, I forced Mr A to take me to the nearest Best Buy as I was desperate to purchase a Gimbal for my GoPro! (Sounds like a good name for my first album!)
For those of you who don’t know , a gimbal is a camera stabiliser so when I attach the gopro to it , the footage is extremely smooth and makes for a more professional video
(I definitely take after my dad with my love for gadgets!)
Anyway , I’ve been recording some footage for you around my ship to give you an idea of where I live and what it’s like on board however, I am now discovering that filming the footage is the easy part and actually editing the bad boy is what takes some time so hopefully I can get the video up in the next couple of weeks and you can let me know what you think!……
and maybe it’ll encourage you to book a cruise with us too!… Hint!Hint!
I’m planning on taking the gopro around the crew areas too so you can see how different it is down below compared to the glamorous guest areas up the stairs !
I purchased the gimbal the day after Black Friday and managed to get the last Gimbal in the store and it was reduced from $300 to $160 , BOOM!
I am writing this particular blog on my phone for a change as I am sat on a sun lounger by the ocean in a bar/restaurant here in Cozumel, Mexico.
It’s such a beautiful day , just a light breeze and the sun is the perfect temperature as it is almost 5pm here, so we have two and a half hours until we have to be back on the ship…….
Oh and the people who own this beach bar have a small black pig…..
So it’s just roaming around my feet right now which is a bit mental !….
the reality of working far away from home kicked in a little bit today
One of my biggest fears of working over seas is god forbid, something bad were to happen to a friend or family member back home when I am stuck all the way over here in America or even worse, when we are at sea, meaning you can’t book the next available flight home until you are in port again.
I spoke to my mum on the phone today for ages (believe me , once we get going it’s hard to stop….. Mr A once told me to go call my mum before a set to warm up my voice!! Haha!)
Anyway she was calling to let me know that my wee gran had a scare tonight when she was (luckily) up at my Aunty’s for dinner , she took a funny turn and went all pale and dizzy and felt so disoriented and started talking complete nonsense. They called the ambulance who took her into the hospital and she has to stay in to get some checks done. My family assure me that she is ok but I hate to think she’s in the hospital and I cant go visit her to make sure she’s alright 😞
I feel so lucky to have such a close family but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve noticed missed calls on my iPhone and the panic starts “what’s happened ?…is everyone ok?”…… which, touch wood, they always are and it’s my paranoia kicking in again but that is one of the difficult thing’s to deal with when working away on ships.
So, I told you before , we have named our band , ‘Kraken’ and it’s really starting to stick with our guests, which is great! I have made a Kraken Facebook group too if you guys want to check it out and give it a like!
This cruise in particular we have made friends with a lot of guests , including Tom And Debbie. On the first night of the cruise Tom came up to us at the stage to ask if we would play their favourite song ‘Jessie’s Girl’ and at the end of the song he asked if he could take one of our microphone’s as he wanted to propose to Debbie. I managed to film it on my phone and put the video on the Facebook page so stop what your doing right now and go watch it! ;
Our band are starting to sound better now too which is great.
We were sounding a bit ropey at the beginning , a lot of mistakes were happening on stage which probably weren’t too noticeable to the guests but I am a perfectionist when it comes to performing and find myself getting upset when we don’t sound as good as I know we can , however, this cruise I feel like we’ve been performing better as a group and actually, one of our guest’s came up to us and complemented the band on our energy on stage which was awesome because we really do like to have fun on stage!!!…… check out this cool picture one of the guests captured of my boy…
🎈 Happy Birthday Nicky 🎈
Last week our little Nicky (aka ‘the wean) turned 21 so the whole band went out in Cozumel together for some Mexican food and plenty tequila y cervezas to help him celebrate the fact he is now legal to drink in America !! It was our day off AND it was Thanksgiving too, the ship was docked till 7.30pm and we had such a fun day together !
Right, that’s enough from me …
My next post is going to be mammoth sized because we are soon going to be setting sail on a 10 day journeys cruise starting 4th of December!
The cruise starts from Tampa, Florida and stops off at Grand Cayman then Cartagena in Columbia, sailing along the Panama Canal to Puerto Limon,Costa Rica then Cozumel,Mexico and back to Tampa and I want to blog the whole trip so keep your eyes peeled for that coming next !
In the mean time ,
I’d love to hear you’re feedback. If you are interested in something or really want to know/see footage of something ship -related particular , let me know and I’ll do a post for you!
Peace out for now ✌🏼
